Please note: According to the dealer from whom I bought this chest, it was made in Toulouse, an ancient city about 150 miles SE of Bordeaux. I have no way of confirming the atribution, but the beautiful marble top was quarried in a town called Aude, just 60 miles from Toulouse. If you run your hand from front to back, you can feel slight undulations, as you'd expect in hand finished marble. Caunes Speckled Grey was very popular in the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. The vein was eventually exhausted and this marble is now extinct. RM
